The government will transform Bali into a Dubai-like destination. In Bali, an Indonesia Financial Centre will be established, similar to the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), to accommodate funds from the world’s wealthy individuals. “What we will create is like Dubai, 100 hectares or more or a little less,” stated Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa during a press conference on Thursday (7/5/2026). This will be a special economic zone with different administrative rules. The aim is for foreign funds to enter the country. Investors will also receive commensurate benefits. “Funds can enter from abroad into there,” he said. Investors will also be allowed to access the domestic financial markets, including the capital market, money market, and bonds. Government projects will also be offered, providing a significant impact on the financial markets and the economy. “This will strengthen funding sources for development for both the private sector and the government,” Purbaya explained. “If it’s just placed there without doing anything and no return, it should be placed in my place, the Governor’s place, but the most attractive is in the real sector,” he added. Purbaya stated that his office, along with relevant ministries and institutions, is preparing regulations so that it can be executed soon. “It won’t take too long; it will be implemented shortly,” Purbaya emphasised.
