Purbaya to Summon PT DSI if Export Taxes Do Not Increase
Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa believes that the presence of PT Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia (DSI) will provide an additional boost to state revenue. The Minister explained that all natural resource export taxes will remain in effect according to regulations despite the existence of PT DSI. Furthermore, it is claimed that this state-owned export company can reduce evasion, allowing the state to receive larger revenues.
“All taxes will apply as usual. In fact, I hope that Mr Dony (COO of Danantara) will provide me with even greater income because export evasion, under-invoicing, and various other practices will disappear. Therefore, I will not cut taxes; instead, I will receive more income,” said Purbaya during a press conference at Wisma Danantara, Jakarta, on Wednesday.
Purbaya emphasised that he will encourage PT DSI to increase tax receipts. He promised not to raise export taxes as long as PT DSI can drive revenue upwards. However, if PT DSI fails to do so, he vowed to investigate the company’s management. “I will not cut taxes; I will receive more income. If it does not increase, then I will examine DSI to see what is happening. Based on existing experience and data, it should increase,” Purbaya added.
Unfortunately, Purbaya admitted that he has not yet obtained the specific figures regarding the potential state revenue that could be gained from the presence of PT DSI. According to him, these figures will only become apparent once the policy is fully operational. “Has the potential state revenue been calculated? It has been calculated, but the exact figure has not been found. We are still calculating it; since this is new, we cannot yet see what the impact will be,” Purbaya asserted.
