Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa is scheduled to begin promoting yuan-denominated debt, known as Panda Bonds, in China next week. The state treasurer plans to travel to China to market these Indonesian bonds to Chinese investors. Previously, Purbaya stated that the Ministry of Finance is prepared to release the Panda Bonds by June 2026. “Next week, on 16 June, I will go to China to promote the Panda Bonds,” he said during the APBN KiTa press conference at the Ministry of Finance office in Jakarta on Friday, 5 June 2026.

The plan to issue debt in denominations other than the US dollar is part of an effort to diversify financing. The former Chairman of the LPS Board of Commissioners stated that this step is a debt strategy amidst the continued weakening of the rupiah against the US dollar. Following the bond marketing in China, Purbaya also aims for other sovereign bond markets. “It is about diversification. We will also go to the UK, followed by investor meetings in Europe, to reassure investors there,” he added.

The Director General of Budget Financing and Risk Management (DJPPR) at the Ministry of Finance, Suminto, explained that the Panda Bond issuance will take place after Purbaya’s meeting with investors in Beijing. However, he could not yet confirm the total amount or target nominal value of the yuan-denominated debt to be issued. “Regarding the issuance, we will see first, as this is the debut issuance. We will see what the market appetite is like,” Suminto said following the press conference.

He confirmed that the Finance Minister also plans to meet investors in the UK. Purbaya will meet investors who hold capital in US dollar and Euro-denominated bonds. “In London, all the major investors are located, and we regularly conduct investor updates,” he said.
