Purbaya to Monitor the Stock Exchange: If There's Any Funny Business, I'll Crush You!
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has admitted to personally monitoring the integrity of investment managers in handling investor funds in the capital market. He even issued a stern warning to investment managers caught mishandling investor funds improperly, stating they would face legal proceedings. “So, friends involved in managing money must be careful. Now, I’m joining in the oversight. If there’s any funny business, I’ll crush you,” said Purbaya at the inauguration of the Planned and Periodic Investment Programme (PINTAR) for Mutual Funds and the Opening of Mutual Fund Week 2026, at the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI), on Monday (27/4/2026). “Even though the OJK Chairwoman will strike first, I won’t let you go wherever you are, if you play around,” he asserted. Purbaya stressed that involvement in overseeing the integrity of investment managers is necessary because their behaviour greatly affects investor confidence in Indonesia. “Integrity is non-negotiable. With a clean market, domestic investors will feel secure, and global investors will see Indonesia as a credible investment destination,” explained Purbaya. He considers that if investment managers lose integrity, it becomes a disaster for Indonesia’s capital market, ultimately affecting domestic economic activities. “Technology alone isn’t enough. Technology without integrity is a recipe for disaster. Trust is the highest currency in the financial market. So, friends involved in managing money must be careful,” stated Purbaya.
