Purbaya to Meet BGN Leadership This Week to Discuss MBG Programme Restructuring

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa will hold a meeting with the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) this week to discuss the restructuring of the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme. Purbaya revealed that the meeting, originally planned earlier, had to be postponed due to a joint agenda with the President. He was unable to confirm the outcome or direction of the discussions to be held with the BGN. “Oh, it will be this week (meeting with BGN). It didn’t happen yesterday because I was summoned by the President,” Purbaya said at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday (15/6). According to him, the government has indeed agreed on the need for a comprehensive restructuring of the MBG programme. However, no decision has been made regarding the amount of budget reduction to be implemented. Purbaya added that the meeting with BGN has not been specifically directed to discuss budget efficiency. “It looks like this week (discussion on MBG restructuring). But it’s not necessarily about efficiency; they just want to meet,” said the state treasurer. For context, the MBG programme budget for 2026 has been set at Rp268 trillion. The government is still calculating various scenarios related to the programme’s funding requirements.
