Purbaya to Continue Driving Budget Efficiency and Refocusing in 2027, Here's the Method
Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has emphasised that the government will continue to push for efficiency and budget refocusing to improve the quality of state spending in 2027. During the 21st DPR Plenary Session in Senayan, Jakarta, Purbaya expressed hope that this move would boost budget productivity to be more targeted, thereby having a real impact on the economy and society. “The government remains committed to improving the quality of state spending through efficiency and budget refocusing efforts,” Purbaya stated at the DPR RI in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday, 9 June 2026. “So that the allocated budget can be increasingly productive, well-targeted, and capable of providing a tangible impact on the economy and the people,” he said. Consequently, Purbaya stressed that in the future the government will also make the budget allocation for subsidies and social protection more effective. The aim is to maintain public purchasing power and encourage poverty alleviation through more targeted and equitable social assistance and subsidies. Purbaya affirmed that this effort would be based on direct beneficiaries, utilising the national socio-economic single data system (DTSN). “In line with empowerment-based social protection programmes which are also continuously encouraged and strengthened,” Purbaya said. Additionally, Purbaya will strengthen and synergise social protection programmes across various Ministries and Agencies. This is intended to make the government’s intervention measures more integrated, complementary, and capable of having a more significant impact on improving public welfare. The next step is to increase central and regional spending activities by strengthening synergy and harmonisation. This is so that the quality of public services and development in the regions can be more optimal, in support of achieving national priority programmes. “This is in line with efforts to strengthen Ministry and Agency spending in the regions, which is also continuously encouraged through programme synergies whose beneficiary allocations are located in the regions,” Purbaya explained. “Examples include accelerating the Free Nutritious Meals programme, strengthening the Kopdes Merah Putih, Sekolah Rakyat, and free health check-ups,” he concluded.
