Purbaya states Whoosh restructuring complete, awaiting announcement

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa stated that the debt restructuring for the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Rail or Whoosh project has been completed and is merely awaiting the government’s official announcement. “It’s done (the restructuring), just waiting to be announced,” he said during the PT Sarana Multi Infrastruktur (SMI) 2026 Symposium in Jakarta on Wednesday. The government has also conveyed the results to the Chinese government. This step was taken to safeguard long-term bilateral relations and trust between the two countries. “Yesterday I met the Chinese Finance Minister. This concerns the long-term relationship between Indonesia and China. I told the Chinese Finance Minister that it has been decided, just waiting to be announced,” he explained. “It will be announced by Mr AHY. I think I’m not entitled to talk about it now. Later, ask Mr AHY once it’s announced. But clearly, it’s decided, just not the time to announce yet,” Purbaya added. Regarding the possible presence of Chinese representatives at the official announcement, the State Treasurer provided no certainty. He emphasised that the decision lies with the government. Previously, Purbaya had mentioned that the project managed by PT KCIC had experienced cost overruns and inter-agency coordination issues.
