Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa is optimistic that strengthened coordination between the government and Bank Indonesia (BI) can help maintain the stability of the rupiah exchange rate. According to him, a more stable rupiah will ultimately be felt directly by the public through more controlled commodity prices.

Purbaya stated that Indonesia’s economic fundamentals remain in good condition. The nation’s fiscal position also remains well-maintained amidst pressures occurring in the financial markets.

“From yesterday’s APBN KiTa meeting, it is evident that our economic fundamentals are good, and the fiscal position is also in a good state—indeed, very good, if we look at the available indicators,” said Purbaya following a meeting with leaders of the House of Representatives (DPR) and Bank Indonesia at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, on Saturday (6/6/2026).

Consequently, the government and BI have agreed to tighten coordination to ensure that fiscal and monetary policies move in the same direction. According to Purbaya, policy synchronisation is necessary to strengthen market confidence in the Indonesian economy and the rupiah exchange rate.

“Moving forward, we will certainly increase coordination with the central bank so that policies become more synchronised, ensuring that the impact of both monetary and fiscal policies on the economy is more significant,” he added.

Previously, Purbaya also emphasised that the pressures currently affecting the market are driven more by negative sentiment than by actual economic fundamentals. He noted that the state budget (APBN) remains in good condition and domestic economic activity continues to progress positively.

He believes that rupiah stability will help mitigate the cost pressures faced by businesses. As a result, consumer prices can be better controlled, thereby reducing the financial burden on households.

“With effective policies, we will see a more stable rupiah, so that traders, consumers, and housewives can experience better prices and no longer face such burdens,” said Purbaya.
