Purbaya Signals New Economic Stimulus for Q2 2026
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Chairman of the Financial System Stability Committee (KSSK) and Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has signalled that the government will roll out additional economic stimulus in the second quarter of 2026.
Purbaya stated that further stimulus is still needed to support the domestic economy amid unrelenting global economic pressures.
“And it seems the government will also provide additional stimulus for the economy in the second quarter of this year 2026,” Purbaya said during the KSSK press conference in Jakarta on Thursday (7/5/2026).
However, he did not detail the form of stimulus the government will provide in Q2 2026.
According to him, the stimulus will be directed towards supporting the acceleration of government strategic programmes, strengthening investment, and encouraging job creation.
Purbaya is also optimistic that Indonesia’s economic growth throughout 2026 will still be able to approach 6 percent despite being overshadowed by global uncertainties.
Those global pressures stem from the escalation of Middle East conflicts and surges in world energy prices.
The government, Purbaya continued, will continue to utilise the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN) as the main instrument to maintain the resilience of the domestic economy amid global financial market volatility.
“If we look at the APBN, the target is 5.4 percent this year. We will keep pushing upwards, hopefully able to approach 6 percent by the end of the year,” he explained.
Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto launched various transport incentives at Gambir Station on Tuesday (10/2/2026).
The stimulus package includes a 30 percent discount on train tickets, 30 percent on sea transport, 100 percent on ferry services, and 17 to 18 percent off on flight tickets.
“Then regarding flights at 17-18 percent, which last year was around 11 percent. Then toll road discounts. The overall estimated budget is Rp911.16 billion, with APBN Rp639.86 billion and non-APBN Rp271.5 billion,” Airlangga explained.
The government is also distributing social assistance to maintain people’s purchasing power.
Airlangga said food assistance is provided to beneficiary families.
“Consisting of 10 kilograms of rice and 2 litres of cooking oil for 35.04 million beneficiary families or deciles 1-4 with a budget of Rp11.92 trillion. Local governments and related agencies are expected to ensure smooth logistics,” he said.
