Purbaya Secures Chinese Support for Panda Bonds Issuance
Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa conducted a working visit to China to meet with a number of investors, ahead of the planned issuance of yuan-denominated bonds, known as Panda Bonds, in July. Beyond investor meetings, Purbaya also held a bilateral meeting with the Finance Minister of the People’s Republic of China, Lan Fo’an, at the Chinese Ministry of Finance office in Beijing on Wednesday (17/6/2026). The meeting forms part of the government’s strategy to strengthen access to development financing, broaden the investor base, and deepen economic partnerships with strategic partner countries. He emphasised that his visit to Beijing was part of a long-term financing strategy carefully planned by the government, reflecting Indonesia’s commitment to continuously expand competitive financing sources and bolster international investor trust. “This is part of a plan that was drawn up well in advance. The government continues to execute its financing strategy in a measured, disciplined, and long-term oriented manner,” he stated. During the occasion, Purbaya reaffirmed that Indonesia’s economic fundamentals remain strong, reflected in the government’s manageable debt ratio, a budget deficit within safe limits, and sustained economic growth. He also noted that investor confidence in Indonesia remains well maintained, as demonstrated by high investor interest in government financial instruments and the preservation of national macroeconomic stability amid global uncertainty. During his visit to China, Purbaya is also scheduled to meet with 15 investors, including five major institutional fund managers such as the Agricultural Bank of China, Zhong Ou Asset Management, and ICBC Wealth Management. Following his time in China, Purbaya plans to fly to London to attend an Investor Meeting with European investors.
