Purbaya says Finance Ministry has no current plan to acquire shares in IDX

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has stated that, to date, there is no plan for the Ministry of Finance to acquire share ownership in PT Bursa Efek Indonesia (BEI). “As of now, there isn’t,” Purbaya said when confirmed by journalists in Tanjung Priok, Jakarta, on Tuesday. The statement was in response to a new rule within Law Number 4 of 2026, which amends Law Number 4 of 2023 concerning the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector (P2SK). One of the amendments stipulates that the Ministry of Finance, Bank Indonesia (BI), and the Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Management Agency (Danantara) may become shareholders of the IDX. This provision is set out in Article 8B paragraph (1) of the P2SK Law, the amendment of which was ratified on 4 June 2026. However, the shareholding of these state institutions must maintain the IDX’s independence as Indonesia’s capital market authority, as stipulated in Article 8B paragraph (2). Article 8 paragraph (1) states that the IDX is a limited liability company established by a number of unaffiliated business entities in the form of limited liability companies. Paragraph (2) notes that the founders of the IDX may become Stock Exchange Members. Paragraph (3) then specifies that IDX shareholders consist of individuals and/or Indonesian legal entities, whether Stock Exchange Members or not. “The Stock Exchange is managed professionally, with governance referring to the principles of accountability, transparency, effectiveness, efficiency, and fairness,” states Article 8 paragraph (4) of the P2SK Law. Furthermore, paragraph (5) stipulates that further provisions regarding Stock Exchange shareholders as referred to in paragraph (3) shall be regulated by the Financial Services Authority (OJK).
