JAKARTA

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa announced the government has delayed tax incentives for electric cars and motorcycles. Purbaya confirmed the electric vehicle tax incentives would be postponed by one month. “The EV incentive is still delayed by a month,” he said during an interview at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs office on Tuesday, 26 May 2026. Previously, Purbaya had targeted the electric vehicle incentives to take effect in June 2026. He stated the incentives are part of efforts to reduce petroleum consumption and strengthen national energy resilience. The government is currently preparing the budget to support the implementation of these incentives. The incentives apply to both electric cars and motorcycles. Purbaya explained the policy aims to shift public energy consumption from petroleum to electricity. The move is also intended to bolster national economic resilience against global energy volatility. “We will calculate and prepare the budget. Clearly, I want it to be implemented from early June,” Purbaya said during a press conference by the Financial System Stability Committee (KSSK) in Jakarta on Thursday, 7 May 2026.
