Purbaya Says Danantara Profits for State Budget Reserves Is President's Idea

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has revealed that there is an idea to allocate a portion of the profits from the Investment Management Agency (BPI) Danantara as state budget reserves. Purbaya said the idea was conveyed directly by President Prabowo Subianto.

“There is an idea from the president to place a portion of Danantara’s profits as government reserves so that it can also reduce our debt. We will determine the safeguards going forward,” Purbaya said at his office on Wednesday (12/8/2026).

According to Purbaya, this plan has partially begun this year. However, he added that his team still needs to meet with the President to discuss this policy further. Purbaya was also reluctant to disclose the value.

“Part of it is already in place this year. But we will see the President’s direction later,” he stressed.

Purbaya reiterated that the reason for this idea is to help reduce government debt. Regarding this debt, Purbaya reminded the public not to make a fuss.

“Earlier it was said we were told to reduce debt. When there is a tool to reduce debt, people make a fuss. For example, it’s sluggish. No, I still have a lot of money in the bank, Rp 400 trillion now,” he said.

Unfortunately, Purbaya did not elaborate further on the background of this policy ‘reversal’. However, he stressed that the government wants to achieve revenue efficiency. This is so that the government budget can become increasingly sustainable.

“The government is improving our revenue efficiency. And wants to make our future budget increasingly sustainable. We utilise every means, including revenue from the regions,” he said.
