Purbaya Says 8 Percent Economic Growth is Already in Sight
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa is optimistic that the direction of Indonesia’s economic growth towards the 8 percent level is starting to become visible. Purbaya even estimates that this target could be achieved in the next two to three years. “8 percent growth might be considered too high by some people, but for me, it’s almost in sight,” Purbaya said at an event in the Indonesia Stock Exchange Building, Jakarta, on Monday (27/4/2026). This confidence is based on the significant potential for strengthening the domestic economy. According to him, this condition serves as the initial capital to drive acceleration of growth to a higher level. “In two or three years, you will see the 8 percent figure nudging upwards,” he said. For the short term, the government is targeting economic growth above 5.5 percent in the first half of 2026. This figure is expected to serve as the initial foundation before entering a faster acceleration phase in the coming years. Purbaya explained that the government is currently focused on building a strong economic foundation so that growth can occur sustainably. One of the steps taken is the formation of the Task Force for Accelerating Government Programmes to Support Economic Growth Improvement, led by Airlangga Hartarto. In addition, the Ministry of Finance is also carrying out internal improvements to strengthen the fiscal contribution to economic growth. Reforms are focused on the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) and the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC). Purbaya claimed that these steps are starting to show positive results. This is reflected in tax receipts which grew 20.7 percent in March 2026.
