Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has revealed that the defence budget prepared for 2027 will be quite significant. However, he stated that he cannot disclose the specific figure currently being designed, as defence matters are classified.

“Next year’s budget will also be quite significant. But if you ask for the amount, that is also a secret,” Purbaya said at the Halim Perdanakusuma Indonesian Air Force Base, East Jakarta, on Monday (18/5/2026).

Purbaya noted that the rising defence budget for next year is an implementation of President Prabowo Subianto’s desire to strengthen the nation’s defence across land, sea, and air. “We will continue to strengthen land, sea, and air. I am just the one in charge of the payments,” Purbaya asserted.

He added that this drastic increase in the total defence budget is expected to continue through 2028. “There is [an increase] next year, and there will be more the year after. Next year’s budget is already quite large; as the President correctly stated, amidst the current uncertainty, we must maintain our defence capabilities.”

As previously reported, the 2026 State Budget (APBN) has already seen a significant increase in the defence expenditure ceiling, set at Rp 337.37 trillion. This is an increase from the 2025 APBN realisation outlook of Rp 245.2 trillion. Compared to the initial 2026 draft budget (RAPBN 2026), the defence expenditure ceiling also rose from an original estimate of Rp 335.2 trillion.
