Purbaya Reveals Strategy for 6.5 Percent Economic Growth Target in 2027
Jakarta, VIVA – Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has revealed the strategy of President Prabowo’s administration to achieve an economic growth target in the range of 5.8-6.5 per cent, which the government has set for the year 2027.
During the 21st Plenary Session of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) in Senayan, Jakarta, Purbaya explained that the first strategy involves driving fiscal, monetary, and financial sector policies so that they can operate in alignment and mutually reinforce one another.
“Thus, with a higher economic growth rate, it is expected to provide a solid foundation to accelerate the improvement of welfare for all Indonesian people,” said Purbaya at the DPR RI in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday, 9 June 2026.
The second strategy involves accelerating investments that possess high added value and are export-oriented, while simultaneously encouraging the role of Danantara to speed up productive investment in strategic sectors.
Purbaya added that this includes long-term investment to leverage state assets through increased participation from global investors.
“The focus is on strategic sectors, in order to strengthen Indonesia’s position in the global supply chain and absorb labour with better skills and higher wage levels,” he said.
The next strategy is to increase purchasing power through the effectiveness of social protection programmes, price stability, and inflation control. This coincides with efforts to expand employment opportunities to support household consumption.
Furthermore, the fourth strategy is to make the implementation of high-quality flagship programmes more effective to boost their multiplier effect on the economy. These include the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme, the Red and White Village Cooperative (Kopdes Merah Putih), and People’s Schools (Sekolah Rakyat).
Purbaya hopes that these various policies will enable economic activity to circulate faster and strengthen the real sector, thereby driving increased consumption and stimulating investment.
“This is intended to help drive a higher economic growth rate, which is targeted at 5.8-6.5 per cent in 2027, serving as a transmission towards 8 per cent growth by 2029,” he stated.
