JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa stated that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has shown admiration for Indonesia’s economic resilience amid the ongoing global uncertainties.

This occurred when Purbaya met with the IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva as part of a visit to Washington D.C., United States, on Tuesday (14/4/2026).

According to Purbaya, the IMF assessed Indonesia’s economic condition as remaining strong despite many countries facing global pressures.

To the IMF, Purbaya explained that Indonesia’s economic resilience did not happen suddenly but is the result of fiscal policy reforms carried out before the global pressures arose.

“I clearly explained that we are improving fiscal policies for revenue; we are fixing taxes and customs. Basically, we want to run or are running a clean government so that our tax revenue increases,” said the former Head of the Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS).

“I said it grew 30 percent in the first month, (or) grew 20 percent in January-February this year compared to the same period last year,” he added.

The increase in revenue ultimately strengthens the resilience of the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN), allowing Indonesia to face global turbulence better.

He emphasised that the government’s reform strategy has become the main foundation in maintaining national economic stability.

He added that reforms in the tax, excise, fiscal management, and state treasury sectors have made Indonesia enter 2026 in a stronger condition.

“So, the reforms we carried out at the end of last year have made us strong entering 2026, so that even when there are many shocks, we still advance quickly. Roughly speaking, immune,” he said.
