Purbaya Reveals Fate of Customs Director General Implicated in Corruption Trial
Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa stated he would monitor further developments regarding the name of Customs Director General Djaka Budhi Utama mentioned in the Blueray Cargo case trial involving defendant John Field.
“We’ll see,” Purbaya told reporters at the Senayan Parliamentary Complex in Jakarta on Monday, 25 May 2026.
He also responded to claims that the Customs Director General allegedly received a S$213,600 bribe in the case. Purbaya reiterated his intention to monitor ongoing court proceedings.
“Who said that? The KPK? We’ll see,” he said.
KPK Response
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) commented after the name of Finance Ministry’s Customs Director General Djaka Budi Utama was mentioned in court proceedings regarding alleged receipt of a S$213,600 bribe.
In response, KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto said the agency would assess the possibility of summoning Customs Director General Djaka as a witness in the corruption case within Customs.
“It will be assessed and processed, then discussed,” Setyo told reporters in Serang Regency on Friday, 22 May 2026.

“We as leaders will not jump to conclusions to avoid mixing unconfirmed information with what is gathered during trial and investigation stages,” he said.
Presidential Directive
President Prabowo Subianto instructed Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa to immediately improve the performance of the Customs Directorate General (DJBC).
He acknowledged that DJBC’s performance still requires significant improvement by the Finance Ministry, which oversees it.
He even stressed that if DJBC’s performance does not improve promptly, Prabowo instructed Purbaya to replace Customs Director General Djaka Budhi Utama without hesitation.
“I am reminding once again for the nth time that Customs must be improved,” Prabowo said at the DPR RI in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday, 20 May 2026.
“Finance Minister, if the Customs chief cannot perform, replace them immediately,” he added.
