Purbaya Responds to OJK's Plan to Revise Bank Business Plan Rules, Encouraging Lending to Real Sector
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has responded to the Financial Services Authority’s (OJK) plan to revise the Bank Business Plan in order to encourage lending to priority sectors.
Purbaya assessed that the government’s fiscal support for strategic programmes is already adequate. However, banks still need to be encouraged to be more active in extending credit to the real sector.
“No, that’s already sufficient from the government, but there will still be other development programmes where perhaps banks have been reluctant so far, preferring to park their money at the central bank. Perhaps they should be pushed in that direction, towards the real sector and development,” Purbaya said at the Attorney General’s Office on Friday (10/4/2026).
“If it’s implemented, it should be good, but I haven’t seen what the regulation looks like yet; I’ll assess the regulation first before I can give a proper comment,” he added.
Purbaya emphasised that every policy encouraging banks to extend loans is a positive step.
“But the important thing is every effort to ensure that banks perform their intermediation function, which is to provide loans; that’s good for the economy,” he stated.
Previously, the Financial Services Authority prepared adjustments to the Bank Business Plan provisions through a Draft OJK Regulation.
OJK Commissioner Council Chair Friderica Widyasari Dewi said the regulation would direct credit distribution to align with the national strategic agenda.
“We are drafting an OJK Regulation for adjustments to the Bank Business Plan provisions. Within it, how we support banks to also engage more with the government’s priority programmes,” she said.
Nevertheless, OJK emphasised that lending to those programmes is not mandatory. The decision remains dependent on each bank’s risk management.
