Purbaya Reprimands DJP and Takes Over All Statements on Taxation, Here's the Culprit
Jakarta, VIVA – Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has denied the Directorate General of Taxation’s (DJP) previous statement that all participants in the Voluntary Asset Disclosure Programme (PPS), or Tax Amnesty round II, would be re-examined.
“That will not be done (re-examination). Because those who have done tax amnesty, that’s it, they won’t be dug up again for those who have registered,” said Purbaya during a media briefing at the Ministry of Finance, Jakarta, on Monday, 11 May 2026.
He emphasised that currently, his side will only pursue tax amnesty participants abroad who have not fulfilled their commitment to repatriate their assets from overseas.
Therefore, Purbaya stressed that the examination in question is to check the fulfilment of that commitment, as conveyed in the Asset Disclosure Notification Letter (SPPH) in accordance with the deadline.
“At that time, they had a commitment, right? Well, has that commitment been fulfilled or not? Other than that, it won’t be pursued anymore,” he said.
He admitted that he would give a reprimand to the DJP side, over the commotion which he believes could affect business climate stability. Purbaya also invited the public, especially the business world, not to worry about that news and to remain calm.
“I will reprimand the DJP to always maintain the business climate, and provide legal certainty to the public. So that taxpayer trust and the continuity of tax information remain well maintained,” said Purbaya.
To prevent such a thing from happening again, Purbaya stressed that in the future, he would take over all statements related to tax policy.
“In the future, only I can announce tax policy, not the Director General of Taxation anymore to eliminate that confusion. So (the Directorate General of) Taxation is only the executor, I am the one who makes policy and takes policy,” said Purbaya.
“Because the DJP has repeatedly issued several announcements that are somewhat disturbing. For example, yesterday there was about toll tax, this tax, that tax,” he said.
