Jakarta, VIVA – Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa expressed optimism that the Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG) will be able to rebound, supported by the solid fundamentals of the economy. “I am confident (the IHSG) will rise again because the economic foundation is good,” Purbaya stated at the House of Representatives (DPR RI) in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday, 3 June 2026.

Although he stated that he is not targeting a specific position for the IHSG this year, Purbaya ensured that various economic indicators could drive the index back into positive territory. One such indicator is the inflation rate for May 2026, which stood at 3.08 per cent year-on-year, remaining within Bank Indonesia’s target range of 2.5 per cent plus or minus 1 per cent.

Purbaya assessed that the current volatility in the IHSG is a result of short-term concerns influenced by negative domestic issues. However, he noted that domestic demand continues to show stable performance. He argued that public purchasing power remains strong, as evidenced by high levels of public activity in both Jakarta and other regions, alongside sustained demand for tertiary needs, such as entertainment venues and hotels.

Strong economic performance is also reflected in tax revenue realisation. The Ministry of Finance reported that tax revenues reached Rp 646.3 trillion as of 30 April 2026, representing a 16.1 per cent growth compared to last year’s realisation of Rp 556.9 trillion. Consequently, Purbaya assured that he would maintain economic performance and market sentiment to ensure stability. “Do not be afraid. The economic fundamentals are good. This may just be short-term fear. The economic foundation is solid; there are no problems,” he said.
