Purbaya Rebukes Internal Kemenkeu Figure for Spreading Rumour that APBN Will Last Only Two Weeks
Finance Minister (Menkeu) Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa held a working meeting with Commission XI of the DPR to discuss the performance of state revenue in the first quarter of the 2026 fiscal year. During the meeting, Purbaya mentioned that there is a party within the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu) spreading rumours that the APBN would only last for two weeks.
“If the APBN does not increase, is our APBN strong throughout the year? Because there are people saying my money will only last two weeks and it’s gone, and it’s not from outside but from people in the Ministry of Finance itself who spread such rumours, I just found out, even though the minister is me, so I’m a bit confused,” said Purbaya during the working meeting with Commission XI of the DPR at the DPR building, Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday (6/4/2026).
Purbaya said the rumour was spread amid the global oil crisis. However, he stated that his side has already conducted calculations considering all conditions of soaring global oil prices.
“But like this, as soon as the oil price rises to a high level, we in the ministry immediately conduct exercises for each price, what the APBN condition is at $80 (per barrel), what it’s like at $90, up to $100, and what the mitigations are,” he said.
Purbaya conveyed President Prabowo Subianto’s instructions to the cabinet regarding Indonesia’s readiness to face the global oil crisis based on calculations. He also assured that the APBN deficit remains controlled below 4% despite the surge in global oil prices.
“So the steps mentioned by the President and other cabinet members in the previous announcement have been considered, he might not have mentioned it, we have calculated the assumption of an average global oil price of $100 per barrel throughout 2026 and with certain exercises, the budget can be pressed to still at 2.92% of GDP,” he explained.
“So throughout 2026 with an average price of $100, it’s safe,” he continued.
