Purbaya Ready to Release Additional Budget for Disaster Management
Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has affirmed that his ministry is ready to disburse additional budget whenever needed to accelerate the handling of natural disasters occurring in Indonesia.
Purbaya said the government gives special treatment to the disaster budget line.
Nevertheless, Purbaya said the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has not yet formally requested additional funding.
“There will be, but it depends on requests from BNPB. If they ask, we’ll see. For disasters, the treatment is different — it’s not for extravagance, but to reduce the suffering experienced by our people,” Purbaya said at the Parliamentary Complex, Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Monday, 7 September 2026.
Purbaya said BNPB still has ready-to-use reserve funds worth a considerable amount. He also asked the public not to worry about the government’s readiness to fund disaster management.
“They have almost Rp 1 trillion ready, don’t they? Then it will be topped up later if there are requests — yes, we’ll add more,” he said.
When asked whether the reserve funds could exceed Rp 5 trillion this year, Purbaya stressed there is no budget ceiling. Disbursement will be measured according to realities and urgency on the ground.
The government, he said, is preparing sufficient funds, while hoping there will be no escalation of disasters in the future.
“For disasters, especially major ones, there’s no limit. Hopefully there won’t be any more disasters. We’re preparing enough money,” he concluded.
