Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has emphasised the state budget’s support for the ‘Sekolah Rakyat’ (People’s School) programme, which is a priority for President Prabowo Subianto’s administration. The Sekolah Rakyat programme is designed to provide access to quality education for children from families in need, aiming to build a generation that is intelligent, competitive, and capable of becoming future leaders of Indonesia.

He stated this during a direct inspection of the Sekolah Rakyat Terintegrasi 2 Kota Surabaya in Bulak District, Surabaya, East Java, on Saturday (1/8/2026). “I have been instructed to provide the budget for Sekolah Rakyat. Study hard, so you can become ministers or wealthy individuals,” Purbaya said in his statement.

Purbaya reaffirmed that Sekolah Rakyat is one of President Prabowo Subianto’s priority programmes, aimed at expanding access to quality education for Indonesian children. He expressed hope that the learning opportunities provided through the programme would serve as a foundation for a better future and increase social mobility through education. “This is Mr Prabowo’s programme. I hope you all become smart people. Do not be lazy in your studies,” he added, noting that school facilities must be utilised effectively.

During the visit, Purbable interacted directly with students and conveyed that one of the Ministry of Finance’s duties is to ensure budget availability so that the programme can run optimally. It was explained that Sekolah Rakyat Terintegrasi 2 Kota Surabaya was built on 6.6 hectares of land with a construction contract value of Rp3.52 trillion and a budget ceiling of Rp3.82 trillion. To date, the realised construction budget has reached Rp3.21 trillion.

The school is designed with an integrated education concept, combining Primary (SD), Junior High (SMP), and Senior High (SMA) levels within a single educational zone. In addition to academic activities, students reside in dormitories equipped with various facilities to support the learning process and character building.

For the 2026/2027 academic year, SR Terintegrasi 2 Kota Surabaya accommodates 270 students, comprising 30 primary students, 120 junior high students, and 120 senior high students. All students are selected through the Program Keluarga Harapan (PKH) scheme as part of an effort to accurately reach children from low-income families. The teaching and learning process is supported by 131 staff members, including 41 teachers, 37 foster parents, 10 dormitory supervisors, and 43 other support staff to assist students in the dormitory environment.

“The Finance Minister’s visit provides encouragement to the students, teachers, and educators. The facilities are also excellent, so we hope the SR programme is a success,” said the Head of SR Terintegrasi 2 Kota Surabaya, Prapti Wardani.
