Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa projects that national economic growth in the second quarter of 2026 could reach 5.7 percent. According to Purbaya, the government still has room to boost economic activity in the second quarter, given that the current period has only reached April 2026. “We will push towards that (5.7 percent). It’s not even the end of April yet. There are still May and June. Once April’s data is clear, we’ll assess and provide further impetus to the economy,” he told reporters in Jakarta on Friday. Purbaya stated that the current rise in commodity prices does not necessarily slow down economic performance. He believes the impact will greatly depend on the magnitude of the price increase and how broadly it affects public economic activities. If the economy appears to be slowing, Purbaya is ready to provide stimulus from various angles to maintain growth momentum. “If it slows, I will provide stimulus from various sides. It could involve improving and strengthening cash money, or other measures,” he said. Additionally, he is open to accelerating the realisation of spending by ministries and agencies (K/L) that are still lagging, so that funds can flow more quickly into the economic system. Overall, the Finance Minister assures that the policies to be issued will always consider the condition of the public. According to him, President Prabowo Subianto’s directive is to ensure that economic policies remain pro-people. Therefore, the government will optimise various policies in ministries and agencies so that pro-people programmes can run faster and have a real impact on the economy.
