JAKARTA - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa received a message from President Prabowo Subianto to convey that the government has plenty of money, so the public need not fear.

“Earlier, the President also told me to pass on the message that, ‘I have enough money, plenty of funds, so you don’t need to be afraid’,” said Purbaya during a press conference at the Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday evening (5/5/2026).

Purbaya then stated that to strengthen the rupiah exchange rate, the government will issue bonds with China.

In that way, said Purbaya, Indonesia will no longer be overly dependent on the dollar.

“To strengthen the exchange rate, we will also issue bonds in the form of Panda Bonds in China with lower interest rates, so we won’t be overly dependent on the dollar anymore,” he explained.

However, said Purbaya, many people are unaware of this situation.

“So our economy is experiencing acceleration, which many people don’t realise, so people are a bit scared and exiting the capital market,” he said.

“So our diversification will be even better going forward. So our prospects are good, friends, no need to fear,” added Purbaya.

Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo, who has met with President Prabowo Subianto, acknowledged that the rupiah is currently undervalued, yet he promised that the rupiah will strengthen again.

Perry has received instructions from President Prabowo Subianto regarding the rupiah exchange rate, which has plummeted to Rp17,424 per US dollar.

Perry explained that Indonesia’s economic fundamentals are very strong. Moreover, Indonesia’s economic growth is also very high, reaching 5.61 per cent.

“Low inflation, high credit growth, and strong foreign exchange reserves. These are the fundamentals that indicate the rupiah should be stable and tend to strengthen,” he emphasised.
