Purbaya: Pertamax Price Hike Will Have Minimal Impact on Goods Prices

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa believes that the price increase for non-subsidised Pertamax fuel will not significantly affect inflation. This is because the fuel type is not commonly used for freight transport or public transportation.

“The impact should be relatively minimal because Pertamax is not used for goods transport,” said Purbaya when met at the DPR RI Complex in Jakarta on Wednesday (10/06/2026).

According to him, the rise in Pertamax prices will also not exert significant pressure on the prices of goods and services in society. Purbaya stated that Pertamax users are generally private vehicle owners, meaning the ripple effect on distribution costs remains relatively limited.

“It should be limited because it is not used for public transport, and goods transport does not use it either,” he added.

When asked about government measures to maintain the quota for subsidised fuel to prevent a deficit caused by potential users switching from Pertamax to Pertalite, Purbaya declined to comment extensively. He suggested that such questions be directed to the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia.

“You should ask Mr Bahlil about that. There must be another method in place,” he said.
