JAKARTA — Indonesia’s Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa is optimistic that the Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG) will strengthen next week. ‘I think, looking at the technicals, next week should see a fast move,’ Purbaya said at the Istana complex in Jakarta on Friday, 22 May 2026. Purbaya explained that, ultimately, stock price movements depend on the fundamental economics of the companies themselves. ‘If the economy is good, profitability also rises. So it shouldn’t be possible that a profitable company sees its shares fall. That would mean they are undervalued; buying would surely yield gains,’ he added. ‘We will continue to improve the economy going forward. And the faster, the faster, the faster again. So it’s just a matter of time, not long if I’m not mistaken, until the IHSG price rebounds again,’ he said. Earlier reports indicated the IHSG had fallen to 5,980.85 at 09:02 WIB on Friday, 22 May 2026. According to data from the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI), IHSG fell 1.87 percent. All sectoral indices weakened, becoming obstacles to the IHSG rebound. The energy, transportation, infrastructure, raw materials, consumer staples, technology, and industrial sectors were among the deepest declines.
