Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has spoken out regarding the viral issue of procuring thousands of electric motorcycles for the needs of the Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG).

According to Purbaya, budget usage in the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) programme should be focused on meeting primary needs, particularly food expenditure.

Purbaya admitted that the Ministry of Finance had previously rejected budget proposals for procuring computers and operational motorcycles for the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme.

“As far as I know, last year there was also a proposal for motorcycles and computers, I think, but it was rejected,” Purbaya told the media at the Ministry of Finance in Jakarta on Tuesday (7/4/2026).

“For this year, I don’t know, I’ll check again later. It should be the same treatment,” he explained.

Purbaya emphasised that the rejection does not mean procurement is prohibited, but rather that the government wants to ensure the main focus of the MBG programme remains on providing food to the public.

“It’s not that it’s not allowed, we don’t know what the programme is like. But it should primarily be for food. The business side has already profited enough,” he said.

He reiterated that in previous submissions, the government assessed that purchasing a large number of computers and motorcycles was not a primary priority.

“But I’ll try to check again. But last year we didn’t want to, we rejected buying too many computers and buying motorcycles. But now I don’t know,” said Purbaya.

On the other hand, the Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Dadan Hindayana, explained that the procurement of motorcycles is indeed included in the budget planning for the MBG programme in 2025.

“The information about 70,000 units is not true. The total realisation of electric motorcycles is 21,801 units out of 25,000 units ordered in 2025,” Dadan stated in a press release on Tuesday (7/4/2026).

Nevertheless, Dadan assured that the vehicles have not yet been distributed because they are still in the administrative process as State Goods (BMN).

“The motorcycles have not been distributed. Once everything is complete, they will first be recorded as BMN before distribution,” he said.

However, he acknowledged that the motorcycles belong to the BGN as part of the 2025 budget planning.

The motorcycles are intended to support the operations of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme, particularly for the Heads of SPPG.

“This motorcycle procurement is indeed included in the 2025 budget. Its function is to support the operations of the Heads of SPPG,” said Dadan.

Dadan stated that the realisation process for the motorcycle procurement was carried out in stages starting in December 2025.

He hopes that the public can understand that the motorcycle procurement is part of the government’s efforts to ensure the smooth implementation of MBG across Indonesia.
