Purbaya Meets US Investors in New York, Directly Addresses Doubts About Indonesia

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa held meetings with several potential investors in New York and Washington DC, United States. According to his official statement, in front of the investors, Purbaya explained Indonesia’s macroeconomic fundamentals and fiscal strategy. As a result, the investors are confident in the direction and government’s fiscal policies. “They intend to invest in Indonesia. So, some explanations were given to them to ensure that their doubts about Indonesia could be cleared,” said Purbaya, quoted from his official statement on Tuesday (14/4/2026). In the meeting, Purbaya explained that the investors had double-checked the latest conditions of Indonesia’s macroeconomic fundamentals for investment comfort. For information, several US investors who met include HSBC Global Asset Management, Lazard AM, BlackRock, Lord Abbett, and TD Asset Management. “So they (the investors) are not doubtful, but they heard there was noise that our fiscal is problematic, they confirmed that it is not true,” said Purbaya. “We explained what our fundamental policies are like and because they are smart people, they can fully accept what we explained as in line with economic theories,” he added. The investors also highlighted the negative outlook given by some international rating agencies to Indonesia’s economy. Purbaya explained that the investors believe the government has taken the right policies despite receiving a negative outlook. “Regarding fiscal policy, they are already confident that the direction of the policy is correct; they think some international rating agencies were too quick to change the rating for Indonesia, such as giving a negative outlook, where the change was made when the latest economic data was not yet complete,” said Purbaya.
