Purbaya Meets Chinese Finance Minister to Accelerate Panda Bond Issuance

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa is accelerating preparations for the issuance of a sovereign Panda Bond by holding a bilateral meeting with Chinese Finance Minister Lan Fo’an in Beijing on Wednesday (17/6/2026). This forms part of the Indonesian government’s strategy to expand sources of development financing and reach a more diverse investor base.

Purbaya explained that the visit to China is part of a long-term financing strategy prepared by the government to maintain the sustainability of national development amidst global economic uncertainty.

“Indonesia is not waiting. We are moving early by building a strong and sustainable financing foundation so that development can continue amidst various global challenges,” Purbaya said in a press statement cited in Jakarta on Thursday (18/6/2026).

According to him, the issuance of the Panda Bond is one of the government’s efforts to diversify financing sources while strengthening economic relations between Indonesia and China. The instrument is expected to broaden the investor base and support the use of local currencies in bilateral transactions between the two countries.
