Purbaya Jokes About Asking for a Treat After Destry's Inauguration as BI Governor

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa joked that he would ask for a celebratory meal from Destry Damayanti after she officially took her oath of office and was inaugurated as the Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI) at the Supreme Court.

The moment occurred when Purbaya made a light-hearted remark to Destry while being questioned by journalists regarding the immediate coordination steps to be taken with the new BI Governor.

“At the very least, I will ask her to treat me to a meal at her office. She will be the one paying,” Purbaya said at the Supreme Court building, Jakarta, on Wednesday (2/9/2026).

Beyond the joke, Purbaya ensured that coordination between the government and Bank Indonesia would become increasingly close under Destry’s new leadership.

He stated that he has been coordinating with Destry for a long time, dating back to when the 1963-born official served as a Commissioner of the Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS).

“So, I am quite close to her, which I believe will make policies more synchronised and synergistic,” Purbaya remarked.
