Purbaya: International Turmoil Permissible, Domestic Situation Secure!

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has stated that the domestic economic condition remains quite secure, even though global uncertainty remains high. Purbaya denied that there is turmoil domestically, saying it is only occurring internationally. He made these remarks during CNBC Indonesia’s Economic Update 2026. “What turmoil? International is permissible, but domestically it is safe. If we look at the fundamentals, our economy is very well maintained,” Purbaya said during the CNBC Indonesia Economic Update 2026, quoted on Monday (22/6/2026). The turmoil Purbaya referred to is the war between Iran and the US involving Israel, and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz due to tensions among the three parties. Purbaya added that Indonesia’s fairly good economy is marked by the State Budget (APBN) deficit in May 2026, which only reached 0.7%. “In the first five months, the APBN deficit was 0.7%. This means that with the current figures, our APBN deficit is still very well maintained,” Purbaya continued. This is because the Ministry of Finance has succeeded in significantly increasing tax revenue. “The success is primarily that we have been able to increase tax revenue significantly. So compared to last year, in the first five months our tax revenue grew by 22.1%. That is a very significant growth,” Purbaya explained. The growth in tax revenue is due to the tax sector reforms recently carried out by the Ministry of Finance. “This is because we carried out reforms in the tax sector, reorganisation of its personnel as well, and we gave punishment to people who did not carry out their duties properly in tax,” he stressed.
