Purbaya Inspects Waskita-Built People's School, Affirms Support for Golden Indonesia

The Waskita Karya-built Integrated People’s School (SRT) 2 in Surabaya, East Java, has commenced operations. Hundreds of primary, junior high, and senior high school students began their School Environment Introduction Period (MPLS) on Thursday, 30 July. The activity will continue this week, followed by a second phase of MPLS from 10 to 14 August 2026. Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa recently inspected the SRT 2 Surabaya site. The visit was part of the government’s effort to ensure the smooth running of President Prabowo Subianto’s priority programmes and to affirm the state’s commitment to human capital development through State Budget (APBN) financing. Beyond inspecting the building’s condition, he interacted directly with the students and reminded them that the main goal of the People’s School (SR) is to expand access to quality education for Indonesian children. ‘The People’s School is one of the assets to support Golden Indonesia,’ Purbaya said in a written statement. He expressed hope that the learning opportunities provided to the students would serve as a foundation for achieving a better future and increasing social mobility. Meanwhile, Head of the Government Communication Agency (Bakom) Muhammad Qodari also visited the SRT Surabaya. He toured various facilities, including classrooms, student dormitories, toilets, laboratories, sports fields, and a mosque. Qodari praised the building, which stands on 6.6 hectares of land, noting that the school not only has complete facilities but also high standards, making it comparable to private schools. ‘The facilities are extraordinary. Usually, only very good and very expensive private schools have facilities like this, but here it is intended for the less fortunate,’ he explained. Waskita Karya’s Director of Operations II, Paulus Budi Kartiko, stated that the company deployed nearly 4,500 workers to complete the People’s School projects in East Java, including SRT 2 Surabaya, working day and night to ensure the building was ready for teaching activities in August. He detailed the use of half-slab methods for the second-floor plates, hiab cranes for faster material distribution, and concrete pumps and mobile cranes for casting. The company also accelerated the PLN electricity connection by adjusting the panel layout to meet technical standards. ‘As directed by the government, the People’s School is not just a place for learning, but an integrated educational environment. We designed the facilities in East Java to become a model integrated area capable of producing a superior generation for the nation’s future,’ Paulus said. He added that the project strengthens Waskita Karya’s track record as a state-owned construction enterprise with over 65 years of experience in delivering beneficial infrastructure. The People’s School programme in East Java spans four regencies and one city—Gresik, Jombang, Sampang, Tuban, and Surabaya—with a total contract value reaching IDR 1.16 trillion.
