Purbaya Highlights Economic Potential of Eid al-Adha
Eid al-Adha 1447 AH is seen to bring economic benefits for the general public and livestock traders. Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa stated that the economic potential of sacrificial offerings is widely felt by the public. ‘Every year, there is a distribution to those who typically cannot afford meat daily,’ he told reporters at the Salahuddin Mosque in the Directorate General of Taxes (DGT) Central Office on Wednesday (27 May 2026). Furthermore, the Eid al-Adha occasion will boost trade at cattle and sheep markets. ‘This will also generate income for farmers. Hence, the potential is highly positive and significant,’ he added. Purbaya said this positive tradition must be preserved. Purbaya himself sacrificed two cattle. One Simental Cross bull weighing 868 kilograms was at the DGT Central Office. Another, larger cattle was at his private residence in Ciganjur, South Jakarta. ‘It seems bigger than this, weighing over a tonne,’ he said. ‘There’s a decent bonus, so we use this, and since we’re not going for Hajj, the money accumulates,’ he concluded.
