Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has given a six-month deadline for Indonesian citizens (WNI) who hold wealth abroad to repatriate their assets. This timeframe is intended to prompt asset owners to return their holdings promptly and fulfil their tax obligations.

Purbaya explained that this measure will be strictly enforced without any tax amnesty framework. “We’re giving them time until the next six months. After that, if they bring it back, we’ll examine it thoroughly,” he stated during a media briefing at the Ministry of Finance office in Jakarta on Monday, 11 May 2026.

The former Chairman of the Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS) stated that there would be consequences for those who fail to comply with these provisions. One such consequence is the restriction of business access. “So even if you have money abroad, you won’t be able to use it for business here anymore,” he said.

However, Purbaya did not provide further details on the plan. He merely emphasised that proper tax procedures would be followed without granting tax amnesty.

The state treasurer also assured that the tax amnesty through the Voluntary Asset Disclosure Programme (PPS) would not be continued. He explained that the tax amnesty programme has already concluded. For taxpayers who participated, no further collection will be pursued, except in cases where agreed payment commitments have not been realised.

Previously, there were reports that the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) would pursue participants in the voluntary disclosure programme who had not reported their assets. Purbaya stated that he would reprimand the DJP for that announcement.

The voluntary disclosure programme, or tax amnesty, was previously regulated under Law Number 7 of 2021 on the Harmonisation of Tax Regulations (UU HPP). This tax amnesty policy has been implemented twice. It was first carried out in 2016-2017. In 2022, the government reintroduced the tax amnesty through the second edition of the Voluntary Asset Disclosure Programme. Since taking office as minister, Purbaya has repeatedly stated that he will not continue the tax amnesty programme.
