Purbaya Fans Himself! E-Cigarette Excise Revenue Soars in March
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - State revenue from e-cigarette excise duties, or Electronic Cigarettes (REL), surged in March 2026. Data from the Directorate General of Customs and Excise under the Ministry of Finance shows that REL excise revenue in March 2026 reached Rp 0.29 trillion. This figure jumped 11.5% compared to February 2026. The revenue also increased 20.8% compared to March 2025. Overall, for January-March 2026 or Q1-2026, state revenue from REL excise duties reached Rp 0.92 trillion, soaring 19.5%. This surge in excise revenue is good news for the government, particularly Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa. The revenue comes from open liquid systems, closed liquid systems, and solids. As a note, since 1 January 2024, electronic cigarettes have officially been subject to Tobacco Excise Duty (CHT) as well as cigarette taxes (piggyback taxes), as regulated in the Minister of Finance Regulation (PMK). This product is based on liquid, solid, or other forms heated using electrical devices, differing from conventional cigarettes that are burned.
