Purbaya Explains Reason for Delaying Electric Vehicle Incentives Until July 2026

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has postponed the disbursement of electric vehicle (EV) incentives by one month, originally set for June 2026. He made the announcement during a meeting at the Ministry of Coordinating Economic Affairs office in Central Jakarta’s Lapangan Banteng area on Tuesday, 26 May 2026. ‘The EV incentives are still delayed by one month,’ Purbaya stated. He explained that the government needs to assess various aspects related to the incentive plan. ‘There are still calculations being made,’ he said. Previously, Purbaya outlined the incentive proposal during a press conference on the APBN KiTA at the Finance Ministry on 5 May 2026. The government plans to provide incentives for 200,000 electric vehicles, split equally between 100,000 motorcycles and 100,000 cars. The programme, initially due to commence in June 2026, will offer a subsidy of Rp5 million per unit for electric motorcycles. However, the subsidy amount for electric cars remains under discussion. ‘For electric cars, we will provide the first 100,000 subsidies. If exhausted, we will issue more. The same applies to motorcycles—100,000 units initially. For motorcycles, it’s Rp5 million,’ he added.
