Purbaya ensures no tax amnesty will be implemented

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has ensured that as long as he remains in office, there will be no tax amnesty, opting instead to focus on refining tax collection.

“As I have said before, as long as I am the Finance Minister, there will be no tax amnesty,” Purbaya stated in Jakarta on Thursday, while serving as a speaker at the Sarasehan 100 Indonesian Economists forum.

Purbaya explained that his administration prefers to focus on tidying up tax collection from taxpayers through standard procedures without offering pardons.

According to him, improving tax collection is more beneficial for tax officials as it carries less risk. “Therefore, I believe the risk lies with the tax officers and banks, so there is no need for a tax amnesty. Let us simply refine the tax collection process,” he said.

Consequently, Purbaya confirmed that no tax amnesty policy will be issued to increase revenue in the tax sector.

“As of now, there are no plans for a tax amnesty. To me, it is detrimental to tax officials because, even after several years, audits can still occur. Years later, if they are audited with data that is not yet clear, my people are summoned, investigated, and even detained,” he added.
