Purbaya Draws Lessons from Prophet Yusuf, Notes His Role as Finance Minister

JAKARTA — Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa performed Eid prayer at the Salahuddin Mosque in the Central Directorate General of Taxes building in Jakarta on Wednesday, 27 May 2026.

Purbaya said during the Eid sermon there were messages about managing the country, particularly because Prophet Yusuf was also a finance minister in his time.

“I just remembered, Prophet Yusuf was a Finance Minister like me. So there were messages for a Finance Minister — two, three, four (messages). Those were very weighty messages,” he said when interviewed by reporters at the DJP Central Office in Jakarta on Wednesday, 27 May 2026.

“If we implement the messages from today’s sermon, Indonesia should become more prosperous in the future,” he added.

He also noted the economic potential during Eid al-Adha due to the equitable distribution of sacrificial meat, which provides short-term welfare.

Additionally, the circulation of the economy among livestock farmers and sellers has increased their income.

“The economic potential from sacrificial animals is good. The income of cattle and sheep traders has also increased. This also provides income for farmers. So this potential is very good and significant,” he said.

Purbaya also donated a three-year-old Crossing Simental bull weighing 868 kilograms to the DJP mosque.
