Purbaya Does Not Want to Be a Minister Again

Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has said he does not wish to serve as a minister again, after being removed from the finance minister post for the 2025-2026 period by President Prabowo Subianto.

“No way. I’ve just been sacked. How could I be a minister again?” said Purbaya after the handover ceremony with Finance Minister Suahasil Nazara at the Finance Ministry office in Jakarta on Tuesday (15/9/2026).

When journalists asked about rumours that he would be appointed Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Purbaya said he knew nothing about it.

The former Chair of the Board of Commissioners of the Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS) from 2020 to 2025 even affirmed that, for now, he no longer wishes to hold any public position whatsoever.

That includes the possibility of leading a new institution to be established by the administration of President Prabowo Subianto, namely Governor of the Indonesia International Financial Centre (PFII).

“No. Once retired, that’s it,” Purbaya insisted.

Purbaya said all he wants to do now is fish behind his house and get a good night’s sleep, claiming that as a state official he found it difficult to sleep soundly.

“Last night I still couldn’t sleep, still felt resentful. But now it’s much better — I’m only human after all,” Purbaya said.
