Purbaya Dismisses More Customs and Tax Officials Following Public Complaints
Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has revealed that he continues to receive reports of unprofessional behaviour by employees of the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC) and the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP), leading to further dismissals. These complaints are submitted through the “Lapor Pak Purbaya” channel, available on WhatsApp at 0822-4040-6600, which was established in October 2025 specifically for public input. “Several have already been dismissed. We will announce some of the individuals sacked by us over the past few months,” Purbaya stated at his office in Jakarta on Tuesday (7/4/2026). Although he could not yet provide the latest figures on the number of DJBC and DJP employees dismissed for unprofessional conduct, he intends to make official announcements every Friday. “On Fridays, when there is time, we will open discussions with colleagues again. I need this because in debottlenecking, there are big issues with businesses, but these are small inputs from the public,” Purbaya explained. “But we need truly actual inputs experienced by Indonesians, not just from large companies,” he emphasised. For context, last year, Director General of Taxes Bimo Wijayanto dismissed 39 naughty DJP employees for committing fraud or abusing their authority in tax enforcement duties. “I hope it’s just 39 people. Because losing 39 means having to replace 39 with at least the same capacity. That creates a deterrent effect,” Bimo said at the Tax Time CNBC Indonesia event in Jakarta on Tuesday (18/11/2025).
