Purbaya Directly Monitors SPPG, Says MBG Budget Could Be Cut If Governance Not Fixed

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has admitted deploying officials from the Finance Ministry’s Directorate General of Treasury (DJPb) to monitor the governance of the Nutrition Service Delivery Units (SPPG), also known as MBG kitchens.

“So I have dispatched Directorate General of Treasury staff across Indonesia to periodically monitor the SPPGs in every region of Indonesia,” said Purbaya in North Jakarta on Tuesday (8/9/2026).

Purbaya said the DJPb teams deployed to oversee the SPPGs will also report directly to him and to the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) if they find governance problems.

If the findings reported are not followed up, he said, the Finance Ministry has the authority to cut the MBG programme’s budget.

“Later, if anyone misbehaves, we will give feedback to the BGN that a particular SPPG in a certain place is making mistakes. And if it goes unheeded, we will automatically reduce the budget,” said Purbaya.

So far, Purbaya considers the implementation of the MBG programme to have improved, particularly under the leadership of Sudaryono as head of the BGN. According to him, Sudaryono has become increasingly efficient in running President Prabowo Subianto’s flagship programme.

This year alone, Sudaryono, according to Purbaya, has managed to cut the funding requirement for the MBG programme from an initial Rp 330 trillion to Rp 270 trillion, and then further to Rp 240 trillion. He is optimistic that this year’s implementation will even require a budget of less than Rp 200 trillion.

“So the new head of the BGN is quite a good person. Excellent, in fact. He has already made the programme’s implementation more efficient. There have been significant savings,” said Purbaya.

Up to 2027, Purbaya said, the MBG programme will need a maximum budget of around Rp 240 trillion.

“It has been budgeted at around Rp 240 trillion, that is the budget. We will just see whether the efficiency measures currently being pursued by the BGN can genuinely push costs below that or not. But I think the benchmark is Rp 240 trillion maximum,” asserted Purbaya.
