Purbaya Denies Rumours of Resignation as Finance Minister
Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has denied rumours concerning his resignation from the position of Finance Minister. “It is not true,” Purbaya stated when confirmed by Antara in Jakarta on Thursday, 4 June 2026.
These rumours began circulating after Purbaya attended a Plenary Session at the House of Representatives (DPR RI) regarding the revision of the Law on the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector (P2SK). During the same session, Purbaya also participated in the presentation of views from each parliamentary faction regarding the Macroeconomic Economic Framework and Fiscal Policy Essentials (KEM-PPKF).
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Purbaya stated that he would soon present the realisation of the State Budget (APBN) up to the end of May 2026. According to Purbaya, the state budget deficit stands at 0.7 per cent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), with tax revenue growth reaching 22 per cent year-on-year.
“The fiscal situation is good. Tomorrow there will be the APBN KiTa update; you may ask more there. I will explain it. If not, I will repeat it. Fundamentally, (the fiscal position) is safe,” said Purbaya.
Purbaya also confirmed that he held a meeting with the international rating agency S&P Global Ratings the previous day, Wednesday (3/6). During the meeting, he presented Indonesia’s fundamental economic and fiscal conditions.
“Essentially, we explained our position as thoroughly as possible, so that they understand what our economic foundation looks like,” said Purbaya. The State Treasurer explained that the meeting with S&P Global Ratings is part of the government’s obligation to provide clarity regarding Indonesia’s economic condition. After receiving information from the government, S&P will discuss the matter further with their internal team. “In terms of response, they will discuss it with their team. They are simply seeking information, and we explained it as comprehensively as possible,” he added.
