Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has spoken out regarding rumours claiming he collapsed due to illness and had to be hospitalised. The issue has been widely discussed by netizens on social media.

Purbaya emphasised that the circulating rumours are untrue. According to Purbaya, he is not ill. He only underwent a medical check-up or routine health examination at the hospital.

“Yes, I entered the hospital but came out again. Routine check-up, normal,” said Purbaya to reporters at the Ministry of Finance office on Monday (4/5/2026).

Purbaya stated that the rumour he could not get up from bed is untrue. He also denied the rumour that he was being dismissed due to his illness.

“There’s a lot of gossip, isn’t there? They say I can’t get up from bed, going to be sacked hahaha,” Purbaya remarked.

When asked to confirm reports of his blood sugar level reaching 600 mg/dL, Purbaya did not deny it. He only assured that his blood sugar level is now normal.

“It’s safe now. 118 is normal again. That’s it, I think everything is quite alright, right?” he said.

For note, the normal blood sugar level for men is between 140 and 200 mg/dL. The rumour of Purbaya’s illness circulated after he complained of back pain some time ago.

At that time, he mentioned needing injections at eight points to relieve the pain. When meeting reporters some time ago, Purbaya even had to hold onto the Secretary General of the Ministry of Finance when standing up from his chair.

“This was injected yesterday at eight points. Otherwise, I couldn’t stand like this,” he complained.
