Purbaya: Coretax Design is Somewhat Flawed, Hence the Emergence of Intermediaries

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa recognises that the Coretax tax system is difficult for ordinary people to use, leading to the emergence of intermediaries ahead of the annual tax return (SPT) reporting deadline.

“The design is apparently somewhat flawed. The design is a bit difficult for ordinary people to use. That’s why there are intermediaries or software interfaces that can connect Coretax with people,” Purbaya said, quoted on Wednesday (8/4/2026).

Purbaya became aware of the intermediaries a few weeks ago. He has committed to resolving the Coretax issues, including the intermediaries.

“Because I only found out about a month ago, less than a month ago. That there is room for people to enter in the middle of Coretax to there. So it’s like Coretax was created with weaknesses so that there is business in the middle. I’ll sort it out later,” he added.

According to Purbaya, the proliferation of ‘Coretax intermediaries’ is caused by business opportunities arising from the poor design of the current system.

“In economics, if there is an opportunity, someone will enter it. But going forward, we’ll fix it, so Coretax won’t need intermediaries anymore,” he said.

It is known that the fees charged for such services vary from Rp50,000 to Rp100,000 depending on the type of annual SPT. This raises dangers, particularly regarding the confidentiality of personal data.
