Purbaya Confirms Three Tiffany & Co Stores Can Resume Operations
Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has confirmed the reopening of Tiffany & Co outlets that were previously sealed by the Directorate General of Customs and Excise. Purbaya stated that the seals on one of the stores, located in Plaza Indonesia, Central Jakarta, were removed on Monday (8/6/2026).
“It is true, the seals have been opened and I opened them myself, alongside inspectors from the Jakarta Directorate General of Customs and Excise,” Purbaya said when met at the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas on Monday.
Purbaya continued, noting that Tiffany & Co has expressed its intention to fulfil its tax obligations and other regulatory requirements, striving for better compliance moving forward. “Tiffany is willing to follow government regulations; they will pay, and things will be better in the future,” he added.
He emphasised that the government does not intend to force the closure of their stores or create difficulties for their business operations in Indonesia. “I told them that we will not take actions that make it difficult for them to do business in Indonesia. The same applies to other investors. As long as they comply with the rules, they will not face such issues again. However, moving forward, we will ensure there are no sealings if they are willing to compromise,” he explained.
Purbaya also clarified that other Tiffany & Co outlets are now able to resume operations as of today, confirming that three stores in total are back in operation.
As previously reported, in February 202<0xC2>6, the Jakarta Regional Office of the Directorate General of Customs and Excise sealed three Tiffany & Co stores in the Senayan area, Jakarta. The sealing was part of an enforcement operation aimed at increasing customs and excise compliance.
“We from the Jakarta Regional Office of the Directorate General of Customs and Excise conducted an operation regarding high-value goods, where we suspected there were items not declared in the import notifications,” said Siswo Kristyanto, Head of the Enforcement Section of the Jakarta Customs and Excise Regional Office, in a written statement on Thursday (12/2/2026).
The Jakarta Customs and Excise Regional Office explained that the sealing was related to suspected administrative violations regarding goods imported by the American luxury jewellery retailer. This enforcement action followed instructions from Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa to explore potential revenue sources beyond standard customs and excise duties.
