Purbaya Confirms PFII Location Will Not Be in SEZ, No Overlap Allowed

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has revealed that the government has not yet determined the location for the Indonesian International Financial Centre (PFII). According to him, the government will select a site by considering several aspects, including infrastructure readiness, cost efficiency, and its appeal to foreign investors. Purbaya confirmed that several locations have been proposed, such as North Bali, Kura-Kura Bali SEZ, and Sanur SEZ. However, the government is still awaiting clear proposals for these locations. ‘There are several proposed names, including North Bali, Kura-Kura, and Sanur. But the proposals are not yet clear on what they entail. We will look at which is the most logical, the quickest to implement, and the cheapest in terms of cost to the state. The one that can most attract foreign investors or wealthy individuals to place their money there, that is what we will choose,’ he said during the APBN KiTA press conference on Tuesday (21/7/2026). He added that the location selection will not be based on his personal decision. The site will be determined by a joint team. ‘It is not my personal preference. There will be a team to assess it so that the results are optimal,’ he stated. However, he assured that the PFII location will not be within a Special Economic Zone (SEZ). This is because the government wants to avoid overlapping statuses between the SEZ and the PFII. ‘They say SEZs are not included. But it depends on what the best proposal looks like. If there is an SEZ, its status could be dissolved, something like that, so it is not an obstacle either. But basically, we will see what is best,’ Purbaya explained. The government, Purbaya said, will assess whether the infrastructure can be built easily and is already complete, and whether the location is attractive to investors.
