Purbaya Confirms MBG Budget Will Be Cut to Rp268 Trillion in 2026
Jakarta — The government has cut the cap for the Makan Bergizi Gratis (MBG) program in the 2026 State Budget (APBN) from Rp335 trillion to Rp268 trillion. Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, at a press conference for the APBN KiTa May 2026 edition in Jakarta on Tuesday, 19 May 2026, said the decision is in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s instruction to ensure MBG funds are managed more efficiently.
As of 30 April, disbursement stood at Rp75 trillion, reaching 61.96 million beneficiaries and 27,952 Satuan Pelayanan Pemenuhan Gizi (SPPG).
“MBG has already reached Rp75 trillion, that is 22.4 percent of the APBN of Rp335 trillion. But it will not be Rp335 trillion. There will be savings according to the President’s instruction so that the funds of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) can be used more effectively and efficiently,” Purbaya said.
The minister signaled further MBG budget savings, though he did not detail the forthcoming plan. He stated that President Prabowo is improving the MBG program management and how BGN spends the budget. “The President is calculating what is the best saving approach without compromising the program’s effectiveness in feeding schoolchildren. That is the important thing,” he added.
As a note, government expenditure grew significantly by 34.3 percent to Rp1,082.8 trillion. This realization equates to 28.2 percent of the APBN target of Rp3,842.7 trillion. Central government spending rose 51.1 percent to Rp826 trillion. The national treasurer said this result reflects a strategy to level out the distribution of government spending throughout the year.
In detail, ministry/agencies spending grew 57.9 percent to Rp400.5 trillion, while non-K/L spending grew 45.2 percent to Rp425.5 trillion. On the revenue side, state revenue grew 13.3 percent to Rp918.4 trillion, resulting in a budget deficit of 0.64 percent of GDP or Rp164.4 trillion as of 30 April 2026.
