Purbaya Confirms Electric Motorcycle Incentives Will Continue This Year
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has emphasised that incentives for electric motorcycles will continue this year.
The amount of the incentive to be provided is approximately Rp 5 million per electric motorcycle.
“This year. Yes, not all at once, gradually. The subsidy might be Rp 5 million per motorcycle, Rp 5 million or more,” Purbaya stated during a media briefing at his office on Friday (24/4/2026).
However, Purbaya explained that the number of subsidy recipients for electric motorcycles will still be discussed further with relevant ministries.
“Later, the number of subsidised motorcycles will still be considered, and we want to show how it will be,” he said.
“But clearly, I will first discuss it with the Minister of Industry, the Coordinating Minister for the Economy, and we will report back to the President in accordance with the instructions at that time,” he added.
As is known, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia previously stated that the government is preparing gradual steps to convert petrol-fuelled motor vehicles to electric vehicles, particularly motorcycles, of which there are around 120 million units in Indonesia.
Bahlil explained that the motorcycle conversion programme has actually been running for the past several years. Each year, around 200,000 motorcycles have been converted from petrol to electric.
Therefore, Purbaya proposed that incentives be given for 6 million electric motorcycles.
“If it’s up to me, I propose that we give them to the new ones first, the first batch of 6 million motorcycle sales. We will, but not all at once,” said Purbaya.
“Then we will see it gradually. But for the new ones, we will try to create a programme, yes,” he emphasised.
